Matisse-inspired 15 Day Forest at 56 St James

Could you tell us about the work you will be showing during this year's E17 Art Trail?
We are filling 56 with a Matisse-inspired paper forest that will be growing across the 15 days the art trail is on. Assisted by all who would like to come along and participate its going to be exciting to see how far things go & hopefully the forest will take on a life of its own.

How have you been preparing for this year's trail?
By gathering together as much green paper as we possibly can!

Could you tell us about an artist that  particularly inspires you?
We have been particularly inspired by the graphic simplicity of Henri Matisse56 already has lots of plants both as real greenery and as a motif on the soft furnishings etc, so we felt we wanted to develop this even further within the space. Andy is a hugely talented paper sculptor, among other things, and I make sets for the fashion industry so we are both used to working in a 3D format. It felt right to do something that involved paper as a material, so naturally the collage and cut outs of Matisse with there naturalistic motifs provided a good place to start!

What are you most looking forward to during the E17 Art Trail this year?
Seeing what everyone else has been getting up too - particularly excited about the rumours from Golden Pineapple about a pineapple hunt around the stow, we love a pineapple at 56 too!
