Julie Caves tells us about the History Trail and events at Orford House

Julie Caves is one of the organisers of local artist-led group Waltham Forest Arts Club. She tells us a bit about what is happening at Orford House on the last weekend of the trail.

On the last weekend of the trail, Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th of June there will be music, walks, talks and surprises, inspired by Walthamstow’s past, from the Domesday Book up to yesterday. This History Strand of the trail has been organised by Lissa Chapman of Clio's Company theatre group and it is a great programme!

Waltham Forest Arts Club members are participating in some of the activities. Amongst the talks at Orford House on the Saturday Julian Beere will tell us about the statues on the town hall and Nicolette Murin will explain Arts Club's new project- the creation of an Art Lending Library, a library where you can borrow art for three months. Hear about art lending starting with William Morris Gallery in 1965 and moving further afield in place and time in the UK and America.

On the Sunday Arts Club will be hosting a lovely event as part of the History Strand at Orford House from 11:00-5:00 - 'Dancing and Drawing Through Time'. A great way to end the trail! Starting the day with performances by Tudor Dancers in lovely costumes, continuing on through English Country dancing, then belly dancing and progressing through time to swing dancing!  A few more dance demonstrations may still be added, an updated schedule will be added to the Art Trail web listing.

Drawing materials have kindly been provided by Jackson's Art Supplies, or you can bring your own. Try your hand at drawing the figure in motion or just rest your feet in the lovely space and watch the dancers. Come draw with us!

As well as all this, Diana Furlong will be our Wandering Scribe.
